War Record: Lawrence Norman Dashper M.M.
Lawrence Norman Dashper M.M. was born in the Birmingham area on the 10/4/1913.
He had 2 or 3 brothers and a sister, with one brother and sister still alive
and in Birmingham. Lawrence Norman Dashper enlisted in the 11th
Hussars on the 25/7/1931 was transferred to the 1st Kings Dragoon
Guards the same year. At the outbreak of war he was posted to the Royal Armed
Corp. At the war's end he was demobbed in 1946 having been a Warrant Officer
and awarded the M.M. (Military Medal) in the North African campaign.

Action for which commended:
On 29 Nov 41. at 1300 hrs. Sjt. Dashper with his Troup and one Breda
car under Commd. attacked an enemy strongpoint at Gasr-el-Arid MR.468398.
Although coming under heavy shell fire, Sjt. Dashper pressed home his attack
and by his bold action forced the enemy to disclose his strength which was
duly reported, and destroyed four lorries besides inflicting casualties.

He worked for British rail from 1946 until he retired.
Lawrence died on 11 June 2000 in General Hospital, Bishop Auckland County Durham. His parents were William Henry and Louise Dones.
