The mystery of Susannah
Dashper's marriage
"Susannah Phillips Dashper was
our great grandmother. We suspected Susannah died young and never
married (see Daniel Dashper) but I stumbled upon her
marriage to John Bayley in Tavistock in 1876. Within the last
month I received a copy of Susannah's mother's death certificate
in 1898. Susannah was the witness and she gives her name as
Susannah Newcombe."
- X Files Case #5 solved, case
closed (or is it?): Linda Etty writes (10/3/2000)
-"The mystery of Susannah Dashper has been solved
for the time being. Shirley James (Durdan) obtained the
marriage certificate of Susannah Dashper 1876
(5B#644). The marriage was May 19, 1876 to JOSEPH
NEWCOMBE a farmer at Cudlipptown owned by his
father James Newcombe. Susannah lived at Lane End,
Peter Tavy with her father William Dashper. I
believe (as we call it) there was a double ring
ceremony. When I found Susannah Dashper and then
found John Bayley with the same registration number I
assumed they married. I think Susannah Dashper
married Joseph Newcombe and John Bayley married ???
during the same ceremony accounting for the
confusion."
