Background Information on Edith Dashper Stewart
"Edith was our mother. Her date of birth is unsure so we use the official government date which made her a much younger woman (3 years younger). She quit school very young and worked at several jobs before her last at Westinghouse Canada sealing light bulbs. It was at Westinghouse she met our father David Stewart who came to Canada with his father, brother, and sister shortly after the death of his mother about 1912. He began to learn the machinist trade soon after, following the family preference for things mechanical. When they married in 1924 she quit her job - women were not allowed to work after marriage. Besides raising her family she nursed her ill mother (Emilia Maria) for almost 10 years.
After Emilia died, David and Edith moved to Millgrove - a small rural village. Mom loved to sing, and was active in the church choir and sang quite regularly at weddings and funerals with her brother Clarence Dashper known to us as Uncle Ken. Dad was active in sports and coached a rural softball team to a provincial championship. Mom and Dad lived in Millgrove for over 50 years until Dad's death and Mom's poor health forced her to a nursing home where she died in July 1999 at the age of 94."
